Call for Pilot TNA to support the Cal/Val of satellite atmospheric missions

ATMO-ACCESS is inviting proposals to shape a pilot for Trans National Access to ATMO-ACCESS Observation facilities, Central laboratories and Data centres to support in a coordinated manner pre- and post-launch Cal/Val activities of satellite atmospheric missions.

The call targets international stakeholders (space agencies, programmes and the like) and supports large and complex projects involving physical, remote, and virtual access recurrently and/or in parallel to multiple ATMO-ACCESS facilities including observational
platforms, simulation chambers, mobile platforms and Central laboratories.

Procedure

The call is based on a two-stage submission scheme:

  • 1st-stage – Concept Note:
Interested stakeholders first submit an initial concept note summarising the proposal. Received concept notes will be prioritized and selected by an independent selection panel based on the scientific relevance and impact, as well as the feasibility of implementation under the TNA scheme.
  • 2nd-stage – Co-design:
The applicant of the proposal selected in the 1st stage will be invited to participate in the co-design of the pilot TNA. The stakeholder and the providers of the proposed ATMO-ACCESS Facilities work together to plan, coordinate, and define the technical details of the implementation. The stakeholder should commit to actively participating in the co-design of the TNA project and providing feed-back to ATMO-ACCESS during and after the realization.

At the end of the co-design phase, the viable TNA pilot starts. Users can access the ATMO-ACCESS facilities in person (physical access), remotely (remote access) or both. The access is free of charge and includes the logistical, technological and scientific support and the specific training needed to use the services provided by the facilities. For this pilot TNA the user is a person nominated by the stakeholder to act on its behalf for the successful implementation of an activity listed in the TNA project. To facilitate TNA, users may benefit from a limited financial support for some of their travel and local subsistence costs.

ATMO-ACCESS promotes gender equality in scientific research and encourages access from women and young scientists, companies and private sector users.
