Hybrid Autumn Schools : Sensors and Drones in Atmospheric sciences

November 11-15, 2024, The Cyprus Institute campus in Nicosia (Cyprus) and Empa campus near Zurich (Switzerland)

The ATMO-ACCESS project supports innovative training and education activities related to atmospheric research infrastructures. It is crucial for the future success of European atmospheric facilities to ensure that new generations of researchers acquire knowledge and skills to take advantage of all the essential tools for their research. These two hybrid Training Schools will run in parallel and focus on the operation and scientific exploitation of sensor systems used in urban and remote areas for ground-based applications (Autumn School at EMPA, Switzerland) and on drones (Autumn School at the Cyprus Institute, Cyprus).

Target group

This intensive course is suitable for both M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in atmospheric and Earth system sciences who are working with sensor data from atmospheric variables, related to climate change and air pollution.

Please, note that the number of participants is limited – 30 applications (15 for the School in Cyprus and 15 for the School in Switzerland) will be accepted!

About the course:

The course part on sensors will be mainly held on the Empa campus near Zurich, Switzerland. The course part on drones will be mainly held by the Center of Excellence for Climate and Atmosphere Research (CARE-C) of the Cyprus Institute in Nicosia, Cyprus. The two courses are running in parallel and will be inter-connected in hybrid mode. In this way, participants have the unique chance to learn more from the two schools and their specificities.

Training course organizer

Course organization is led by CARE-C, The Cyprus Institute and Laboratory for Air Pollution and Environmental Technology of the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, Empa.

For any queries regarding the training school related to sensors applications on drones, please contact Ms Eleni Zenonos at e.zenonos@cyi.ac.cy

For any queries regarding the training school related to sensors applications at the ground, please contact Stefan Reimann at stefan.reimann@empa.ch
